A large Chinese silk cover, the ground with a repeated cloud and never-ending knot design. The central applique is a European armorial panel showing the impaled coat of arms commemorating a marriage.
These are the arms of the Honourable John Herbert Bowes-Lyon, second son of the thirteenth Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorn, who married the Honourable Fenella Hepburn – Stuart-Forbes-Trefusis (daughter of Baron Clinton), on the 29th September 1914. This was probably presented as a wedding present.
(* Note Honourable John Herbert Bowes-Lyon was the younger brother of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, grandmother of the current King Charles)
