3. Rare Pair of Reverse Glass Paintings

A rare and large pair of reverse glass Chinese export paintings. The first depicting the Hong merchants factories of Canton, prior to the fire of 1822. Each warehouse flying their countries national flags, including Denmark, Spanish / Philippine, America, Swedish, British & Dutch. The waterfront busy with sampans, small cargo boats and three war junks at anchorage.

The second painting portraying a very rare view of a busy Copenhagen canal scene, the affluent destination for exotic China trade goods.

Both in contemporary hardwood frames.

Canton. Circa 1800-1820.
25 1/2 x 18'' (65 x 45 cm)

For very similar reverse glass view, see Carl Crossman 'The China trade' collection of the Peabody museum of Salem MA.
