2. Chuba (Robe)

A striking and well-preserved Tibetan chuba, traditionally worn as an outer robe, fashioned from a richly coloured textile decorated with bold cloud motifs in shades of blue, turquoise, coral, and soft ochre against a deep ground.

The robe is cut in the classic form, with wide sleeves and a wrap-over front, edged with geometric key-fret borders that frame the garment and emphasise its structured silhouette. The cuffs, collar, and hem are trimmed with dark fur, providing both warmth and a tactile contrast to the smooth fabric, in keeping with traditional Tibetan dress adapted for colder climates.

Such garments were worn by both men and women, often belted at the waist, with the long sleeves and voluminous cut allowing for ease of movement and layering.
