This book is the result of Robert Brandt’s long held and continuing appreciation for the exceptional craftsmanship of Chinese export embroidered textiles and its aesthetic appeal.
It was conceived while having a good lunch with John & Eleanor Vollmer, when by coincidence, photographs arrived on the phone enabling us to buy possibly the most interesting pieces in this field to have come on the market for some years. Consequently we realised we had collected the most exceptional group of Chinese silks, and hence, with the encouragement from John, decided to produce a catalogue on the subject.
