43. Marble Banner Stand
China. 17th century
11" x 12" - 28cm x 31cm

A white marble banner stand, of squat gourd form
carved in relief with a wide band of flowering lotus
above rocks and waves, the foot with simulated ruyi
heads and rim with a band of lotus petals.

Note: Used for supporting Imperial banners along
processional routes.
