24. Interior Watercolour
China. Circa 1840.
14" x 11" - 37cm x 28cm (ex frame).

An unusual and well painted watercolour,
portraying the interior of a scholar's house. Seated,
wearing informal dress, before green painted room
dividers surrounded by fine quality furniture and
many decorative scholars items and books. His
concubine, with bound feet, is seated glancing into
a mirrored cosmetic box, below an open latticed
window. A further room, with formal altar
furniture,
opening to reveal a huan yuan watering potted
plants. Two unidentifiable chops to lower right
corner.
